Elias* was attending church in his hometown in Syria when his whole world was turned upside down.

A terrorist stormed into the church and opened fire. Before anyone could fully grasp what was happening, Elias’ two brothers and another courageous man rushed toward the attacker. They didn’t run away — they ran INTO danger to protect the 300 Christians inside.

Moments later, the terrorist detonated the explosives he was carrying. Elias’ brothers were killed instantly ... as well as the third man ... and the terrorist. Elias also lost his sister and four other family members that day. Seven family members dead!

For Elias and for the church, it was a tragedy words can’t describe.

“Everybody witnessed their courage and martyrdom,” says Elias of his brothers’ bravery. “If they hadn’t acted, there would have been more casualties.

“We experienced faith and fear here,” Elias says. “We can’t deny it.”

And yet, he adds: “We have no ambition but to remain faithful ... We are grounded in our faith. We will go on.”
