Christianity Today recently highlighted a tragic attack in the Congo, as relayed by a Christian seeing the violence and bloodshed firsthand.
“Moïse Ombeni took his wife and four kids to church in Goma, a city in the Democratic Republic of the Congo that sits on the Rwandan border. By the time the second service ended, their pastor had called off the next one, directing congregants to get to safety as rebel militants moved into the area.
“The next day, Ombeni watched people flee the city. … Before long, he could hear heavy weapons detonate outside.”
This group of rebels — called “M23” — have been wreaking havoc on homes and families.
“Ombeni locked the doors,” the CT story continued. “He felt the house vibrate when stray bullets hit the roof and ricocheted into his courtyard. Outside, hundreds of civilians and soldiers died from gunfire and explosions. … At least 900 bodies have been found so far on the streets … Ombeni began praying with his family and reciting all 16 verses of Psalm 91 to them.”
If you know this psalm, you know it’s one that encourages us to look to the Lord for His protection and comfort. If you don’t know it, I encourage you to find time to read it — even now.
And I also urge you to stand with brothers and sisters like Ombeni, his family, and many others who are suffering the violent effects of political unrest and terrorist takeover.
Please don’t turn a blind eye to the suffering of our persecuted family and others in the Congo and elsewhere.
Whether they live in Africa, the Middle East, or Asia, they need your support immediately.
Your partnership helps provide immediate humanitarian needs like emergency food, water, shelter, and safety for believers who are forced to flee their homes amid violence.
Please step forward today. And please keep Christians like Ombeni’s family in your prayers.
In His service,
Mat Staver
