An Inside Look at Life for Your Persecuted Family in Afghanistan

Bless Believers Overseas

What’s it like to be a believer living in Afghanistan under Taliban rule?

One woman — who calls herself “Akram” to protect her identity — bravely provided an inside look during an interview with International Christian Concern.

Originally from Iran and raised in a Muslim home, Akram is reaching out to Christians in Afghanistan. She hears story after story of persecution from many believers there via text messages, phone calls, and more. One man shared with her the following harrowing details:

  • He was imprisoned for three months after getting “caught” by the Taliban … and for five hours every day, he was hung upside down from the ceiling as his captors tortured him with electric shock.
  • His ears bled, his eyes hurt, and his sight is impaired as a result. The man was also kept in a dungeon for 60 days straight with no daylight, while suffering physical and psychological abuse no human should EVER experience.
  • He is now on the run — knowing he’ll be killed if the Taliban find him again.

As much as it breaks my heart to hear what our brothers and sisters are enduring for the sake of the cross, it also makes me grateful to have friends like you, someone who shares my compassion for the persecuted around the world and wants to minister to their needs in Jesus’ name

The future for believers and others in Afghanistan looks extremely grim. But you and I can help give strength to the weak. Will you stand with Liberty Relief International and encourage these believers?

Your generous donation to LRI will help our Christ-centered partners in hostile countries like Afghanistan supply resources to individuals and families in need, including emergency food, water, aid, necessities, access to health care … even spiritual and emotional support like trauma counseling, discipleship materials, Bibles, and more.

Your financial giving and prayers for our persecuted brothers and sisters offer real blessings amid unspeakable suffering, pain, and uncertainty.

So, I thank you for your support. Your partnership with LRI reminds believers overseas of the truth of James 1:12: “Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial.”

In His Service,

Mat Staver
