Known as the “North Korea of Africa” according to Open Doors, Eritrea ranks No. 4 on the group’s World Watch List.
One of the main ways Christian persecution manifests within the nation is through pressure from the government and dictatorial paranoia.
One Open Doors report details that far too often:
Christians are arbitrarily arrested and imprisoned without trial.
Christians die in prison because of torture, denial of medical care, or other inhumane conditions.
Eritreans are forced to serve indefinite military and national service in inhumane conditions.
And one of our partners shared the heartbreaking story of an Eritrean church leader:
“Abdullah spent two years in prison. His wife says she was not allowed to bring him any extra clothes to him, and he only received food three times a week. Only when Abdullah became debilitatingly sick and insisted on medical attention was he taken to the hospital. Sadly, it was too late and Abdullah passed away.”
The tragedy of such injustice has been going on for decades.
But LRI’s local ministry partners are there, and in other countries and communities — encouraging the downtrodden, praying for an end to the persecution, feeding the hungry, comforting families and church bodies.
And YOUR partnership makes it possible. Please give generously today to keep it going.
You will extend the compassion and love of Jesus to those who suffer greatly for the sake of the Gospel ...
And empower our Christ-centered partners on the ground to quickly provide humanitarian and spiritual assistance to the individuals and families who most need it.
Every dollar matters to our persecuted family. Thank you in advance for your prayers and giving.
In His service,
Mat Staver
