I read a concerning headline right before the Fourth of July holiday:
“Nigerian Christians in Plateau State Receive Threats of Impending Attacks”
It’s one my mind keeps replaying . . .
International Christian Concern’s report went on to say:
“Locals in … North-Central Nigeria recently received a threatening letter from a Fulani militant, promising an attack on villages surrounding Bassa County” — and other villages received similar warnings.
One anonymous source said, “We received credible information that Fulani militias and bandits brought from Zamfara and other states have vowed to bring down villages” across several districts.
It’s bad enough that believers in Nigeria fear for their lives because of Islamic persecution day to day, and week to week …
But it’s horrendous that they’re directly targeted with threats — either in writing or by Islamic “announcements.”
This is why I write you today — with a true sense of urgency — asking you to send comfort, help, and hope to our persecuted brothers and sisters in Christ in Nigeria and other such places.
Your partnership with LRI helps provide for immediate humanitarian needs like emergency food, water, shelter, and safety for the oppressed … trauma counseling, emotional support, and spiritual encouragement and discipleship … literacy training and job training for those resettling in foreign areas … restoration assistance to rebuild churches and homes destroyed by war and unrest … Bibles, Christian resources, and training for new believers … and much more.
I cannot thank you enough for hearing the cries of the persecuted and taking action for their sake.
You are doing good, seeking justice, and correcting oppression, as Isaiah 1:17 exhorts us.
