Persecuted Believers: "We Will Not Be Defeated"

Jun 6, 2023

“You don’t have to be murdered to be a victim [of persecution]; it is enough to have your basic freedoms restricted. Christians in Mali, Niger, Nigeria, and Burkina Faso, to name just a few, live practically in ghettos, and practice their faith underground.”

—Thomas Heine-Geldern, executive president of ACN UK

Every Dollar Matters to Persecuted Brothers and Sisters!

Persecuted Christ-followers worldwide suffer GREATLY. You know this truth.

And yet HOPE remains in their hearts … a beautiful testament to what knowing Jesus does for a person facing trouble and strife.

According to an interview between Crux, a Catholic news site, and Fionn Shiner, the parliamentary and press officer for Aid to the Church in Need (ACN) UK:

“Christians are suffering seriously, struggling immensely, yet have not lost their hope in Christ.

“There are a number of African countries where Christians find it extremely difficult to practice their faith. The most common cause of this is Islamist violence, in countries such as Mozambique, Nigeria, Burkina Faso and Sudan. Eritrea is also one of the worst offending countries, although that is because the government is atheist and deeply mistrustful of any form of religion, often dubbed ‘the North Korea of Africa.’”

You and I have seen violence escalating in each of these countries — and others across Africa and the Middle East.

So what is sustaining these believers?

One Nigerian bishop says, “One thing that Boko Haram will never take from us is our faith. Our faith is becoming stronger. As long as the kingdom of God continues, no evil human forces will overcome it … we will not be defeated.”

  • When our brothers and sisters are forced to flee their homes and leave everything behind …

  • When men, women, and children are desperate for food, water, safety, and shelter …

  • When believers are crying out for spiritual and emotional support after seeing loved ones killed for their faith …

You and I can be there, — following in Christ’s footsteps, reaching out to the needy.
