The country of Eritrea, located in East Africa along the Red Sea, may be small in size compared to its neighbors Sudan and Ethiopia …

But the extreme Christian persecution taking place within its borders puts it near the top of the 2023 World Watch List from Open Doors.

Holding the No. 4 spot, Eritrea is home to unrelenting Islamic oppression that treats Christians with disdain and cruelty.

Recently, according to the Gatestone Institute:

“Police raided a large group of Christians, mostly college students,” and 103 of them “were arrested and sent to prison. According to the April 24 report:

“This latest arrest puts the number of Christian prisoners detained indefinitely without trial in Eritrea to more than 500. ... Mai Serwa prison [where the Christians were sent] is notorious for its harsh conditions and mistreatment of inmates, many of whom are political prisoners. … Mai Serwa has a reputation for overcrowding, with prisoners often held in small, cramped cells for extended periods of time. The prison is also known for its use of torture and other forms of mistreatment, including beatings, starvation, and denial of medical care.”

Many regions within the continent of Africa are embroiled in intense Islamic persecution and violence. Several nations are in desperate need of humanitarian aid, with millions suffering for lack of food, water, and more.
