"And I also say to you that you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build My church; and the gates of Hades will not overpower it."
(Matt. 16:18)
What is church to you? In the book of Matthew, Jesus told Peter that “on this rock,” He would build His church. So how should we understand the purpose of the church?
The original Greek word for church in the Bible is ekklesia, which translates to “an assembly or a group of people called out from one place to another.”
Church is a place where believers congregate, but more importantly, it is a congregation of Christ-followers who are committed to one another in His name.
Christian gatherings are not easy in certain countries. In fact, believers have to risk their lives on a regular basis to meet in secret. And yet, they continue to gather to worship, study the Word and encourage one another.
Sincerely,
Mat Staver
