Seeing headlines like these about Russia’s invasion of Ukraine deepens my sorrow over this war:

• Kharkiv hit with 53 strikes in 24 hours as Russian convoy pushes south

• Putin says Russia will stay in Ukraine until goals are met

• More than 720 killed in Bucha, surrounding areas

• Mariupol mayor says death toll has passed 10,000

In addition, the latest updates I have received from our multiple on-site partners are a stark reminder of the daily realities in Ukraine:

• Many thousands of homes destroyed.

• Hundreds of schools leveled.

• Hospitals, clinics, enterprises, communities, airports, bridges—turned into rubble.

• Thousands upon thousands killed.

• Millions upon millions displaced—both within and without the nation.
