What is church to you? In the book of Matthew, Jesus told Peter that “on this rock,” He would build His church. So how should we understand the purpose of the church?

The original Greek work for church in the Bible is ekklesia, which translates to “an assembly of a group of people called out from one place to another.”

Church is a place where believers congregate, but more importantly, it is a congregation of Christ-followers who are committed to one another in His name.

Christian gatherings are not easy in certain countries. In fact, believers have to risk their lives on a regular basis to meet in secret. And yet, they continue to meet to study and encourage one another.
