Devastated, Martha Holds On to God

Send Help—Deliver Hope!

Martha is just one of millions of severely persecuted Christians in need of support today.

In January, violent attackers massacred a village—in the Democratic Republic of the Congo—in which many of her relatives were living.

A total of 21 people died that day—five of them from Martha’s family.

As she recalls what happened, can you hear the pain in her words?

The attackers arrived at about 6 p.m. My parents and siblings were sitting outside eating dinner. They heard gunshots coming from the direction of the valley. My mom, dad and sister-in-law hid in the house, while my siblings ran into the forest. The attackers entered the house and massacred those who were inside. Then they moved to the next house, where they killed my uncle and aunty. Ten people from our small neighborhood were killed that day.

Such loss has been a terribly heavy burden for 19-year-old Martha, but she knows where to turn:

I pray God will help me swallow this very bitter pill. I felt devastated, confused, sad and so alone during the funeral, despite the presence of so many people.

But I hold on to God because I remember that my parents taught me to always rely on God, to put my trust in Him, and that He is the first source of everything. If today I have the strength to continue serving the Lord despite what happened, it is because of what my parents constantly told me.

Martha is doing what she can, to make ends meet. She implores . . .

Please pray that God would help me to constantly remain in His will despite all that has happened in my life, and the challenges that I face. May He provide for my needs; may He continue to comfort us, because the wound is not yet healed.

Please don’t turn a blind eye to the suffering of persecuted Christian family members like Martha and others in the Congo and elsewhere.

You can provide for their needs, comfort them and help bind up their wounds.
