Urgent Relief for the Suffering

Jihadists in Mozambique recently rained down terror on a targeted town in this southeast African nation.
A large group of heavily armed militants flooded the streets of Mocímboa da Praia and set several buildings on fire — including a Catholic church, a secondary school, the local hospital and dozens of houses, cars and shops.
Attackers also freed detainees from a local prison before hoisting black Islamic State flags.
One eyewitness recalled the horror: “Heavy weapons were used to shoot in the streets. The clash lasted several hours. At the end, the streets were filled with bodies, including civilians.”
According to Agenzia Fides, communities throughout the Cabo Delgado province are frightened. “They fear these sudden and violent attacks.”
Area missionaries say men, women and children are forced to flee without taking anything with them, then seek refuge in the woods. “The fear ... is that [armed groups will] return and commit new massacres.” People are already devastated — physically and psychologically — and may not be able to cope with a new attack.
Friend, this is the terror that Christians and religious minorities are faced with daily in countries like Mozambique, Kenya, Sudan, Syria, Iraq and many others.
We must minister to their needs with Christ-like compassion.
