The Tragedy of Boko Haram in Nigeria

Aug 6, 2020

Stand in the Gap Today

You likely know how relentlessly violent Boko Haram has been in the nation of Nigeria.

The jihadist terrorist organization, according to recent figures I’ve seen, has killed more than 8,300 members and eight pastors of one church denomination since the militant group’s insurgency began in the northeastern region 11 years ago.

What’s more, based on an Open Doors report on Nigeria...

  • Some 50 attacks on different communities were carried out by Boko Haram since the end of 2019.

  • The violence has affected almost all the 60 District Church Councils in the northeast region, with more than half of the churches either burned or destroyed.

  • More than 700,000 church members have been displaced since Boko Haram started its attacks in the area.

  • At least 25,000 Christians are living in refugee camps in neighboring Cameroon.

  • Others have been abducted.

  • Among them are several leaders, as well as 217 of the 276 Chibok schoolgirls who were kidnapped by Boko Haram in April 2014 and are members of the denomination as well. Six years later, and 112 of the girls are still missing.

  • The Islamist organization’s insurgency that started in 2009 has claimed tens of thousands of lives and displaced more than two million people.

You can stand in the gap for believers who live under the threat of attack, violence, torture, abduction, rape or even death because of their faith — in Nigeria and other nations with similar Islamist oppression.

Your compassionate gift to Liberty Relief International right now will help provide for the basic needs of Christian brothers and sisters and their families — things like emergency food, water, shelter and safety for those fleeing the deadly violence.

Our partners on the ground in hostile places like Nigeria, the Middle East, and beyond also offer trauma counseling, literacy training and job training, help in rebuilding churches and homes that have been destroyed ... and they’ll give out Bibles in Jesus’ name, as well as Bible study materials, discipleship training for new believers and more.

Your most generous gift today will help meet urgent needs of persecuted people suffering the malice of radical Islam’s brutality and evil.

Thank you, in advance, for being a light in a dark place today. Thank you for praying for the hurting. Your persecuted family thanks you, too!

God bless you,

Mat
