17 Kidnapped During Choir Practice

May 24, 2019

I can't imagine the fear our Nigerian brothers and sisters are experiencing after 16 church members and their pastor were KIDNAPPED AT GUNPOINT DURING CHOIR PRACTICE. Please read this update and take action with Liberty Relief International on behalf of persecuted Christians in Nigeria... -Mat

Just as I was planning to update you on the tremendous need that continues in Burkina Faso, where a series of murderous attacks have sent thousands of Christians into hiding and fleeing for safety, I received news of a shocking attack in Unguwar Kuli village in Nigeria.

We have learned that the pastor and congregants of a church in that village had gathered for choir practice with another church in the community. About 20 masked gunmen surrounded the church just after midnight when the practice was coming to a close and opened fire.

According to the report, the gunmen started shooting sporadically as they accosted the pastor, his daughter and fifteen others including nine women. One person was killed in the attack.

You may be surprised to discover that this type of violence against Christians takes place every day somewhere in the world. The World Watch List, which ranks the 50 most difficult countries in which to be a Christian, reports that 245 million Christians worldwide experience high levels of persecution by those set on destroying Christian communities in their nations.

Liberty Relief International is committed to helping persecuted Christians and others suffering under oppression and brutality around the world—an outreach made possible because of the compassionate generosity of friends like you.

Your gifts enable Liberty Relief International to engage with our Christ-centered partners on the ground in these most oppressed areas to provide humanitarian aid including vital food survival kits, safe houses, trauma counseling, legal assistance, Bibles and much more.

Your tax-deductible gift of 50, 100, 500 dollars or more will be used right away to minister to the urgent needs of persecuted Christians and others in unbelievably desperate situations—at risk from violence, torture, kidnapping, rape and death.

Please help us care for these fellow believers who are being targeted for their faith today. LRI's goal is to be the hands and feet of Jesus as we help facilitate the delivery and distribution of humanitarian supplies and Bibles through our Christ-centered partners on the ground in areas with urgent and desperate needs.

Hearing about such hatred toward Christians in these regions makes me wonder what is in store for the church in America as Congress considers H.R. 5—a bill that will unleash the most radical, anti-religious discrimination Americans have yet faced.

Right now, we must not turn a blind eye or deaf ear to the cries for the help from our brothers and sisters who are suffering horribly for their faith. In the words of the Apostle Paul regarding the Body of Christ, "if one member suffers, all the members suffer with it..." (1 Cor. 12:25-26).

Thank you for caring about fellow Christians who are facing horrific persecution throughout the Middle East, northern Africa, Asia and the world. Please remember to pray for them.

God bless you,

Mat
